Latest Updates from Our Project:

Exciting News! Stretch Goal Reached & Add-Ons
about 4 years ago – Fri, Feb 21, 2020 at 08:45:00 PM

7,517 backers from around the world. Over 1,100% funded with over $1.7 million in pledges and 7 days remaining. Wow. We have said this before and we’ll say it again, thank you so much for your support! We continue to be blown away by our incredible Kickstarter community.

In this update, we have a few exciting announcements to share including three new add-ons, a referral sweepstakes (we’re giving away Nebia by Moen to three lucky winners!), and affiliate program. Read on to find out more!

With over 7,500 backers now, we have surpassed our initial forecasts. To show our appreciation, and in response to popular demand, we’ve decided to do something we’ve never done before. We are introducing a new color option during the campaign. Truthfully, we wanted to introduce this as a stretch goal but things happened too quickly!

Drum roll please… 🥁

Introducing Nebia by Moen in Black & Chrome

For years, offering Nebia in more finishes has been one of our backers’ top requests. We’ve worked hard to make this a reality and are thrilled to be able to offer four premium finishes for Nebia by Moen: White & Chrome, Spot Resist Nickel, Matte Black, and now Black & Chrome.

Once the campaign ends, you’ll be able to choose your finish through a survey sent from BackerKit. Please note that if you select Black & Chrome, these units will ship later than the other finishes, starting in June.

Introducing Add-Ons: The Nebia Shelf & Moen Valves and Trims

In other exciting news, we’ve also decided to introduce a few highly-requested add-ons to the campaign! Starting today, you will be able to add the Nebia Shelf in Matte Black, Matte Silver, and Nickel to your pledge. Please note that the Nebia Shelf in Nickel is a new finish for this product, and will ship a little later (starting in June or July).

The Nebia Shelf - Available for U.S. and International Shipments

The Nebia Shelf is made from high-quality aluminum, one of the most recyclable materials in the world, and can be installed easily in just a few minutes. Sleek and functional, it’s the perfect addition to any bathroom space. Available now on Kickstarter for $39, 20% off its retail price, plus shipping.

The Nebia Shelf in Matte Silver and Matte Black

Moen Align Trim and Valve - Available Only in the U.S.

Many of you have asked for our recommendation on matching temperature controls for installing with your new Nebia by Moen. We are very happy to recommend the Moen Align collection, which pairs perfectly and has matching finishes. You will have the option of adding a valve trim and/or valve from Moen’s Align collection. You can choose from Matte Black, Chrome, or Spot Resist Nickel to complement the finish of your Nebia by Moen.

Moen Align Valve Trim in Matte Black, Chrome, and Spot Resist Nickel

Valve trims allow you to upgrade the trim style of your shower but please note that they require a corresponding standard valve/temperature control, which we also offer (see image below). Changing your valve and trim will very likely require the help of a plumber as you need to get behind the wall. This is ideal for remodels or new construction.

Pricing for Moen Align Valve Trims and Valves

  • Valve Trim in Matte Black or Spot Resist Nickel - $180 (10% off our website price)

  • Valve Trim in Chrome - $95 (10% off our website price)

  • Valve - $89 (10% off our website price)

  • Shipping is $15 per item and is only available within the U.S.

Adding a Nebia Shelf, Moen Valve Trim, and/or Valve to Your Pledge

To add a Nebia Shelf, Moen valve trim or valve to your pledge, login to Kickstarter, click “Manage your pledge” and then “Change your pledge”. From here, you can increase your pledge amount per the values below.

Adding a Nebia Shelf (available for U.S. and international shipments)

For U.S. backers, add $39 + $10 shipping ($49 total) for every shelf you would like to add on top of your base pledge. For International backers, add $39 + $25 shipping ($64 total) for every shelf you would like to add on top of your base pledge.

Adding a Moen Valve Trim (only available in the U.S.)

For U.S. backers, add $180 for the Matte Black or Spot Resist Nickel valve trim or add $95 for the Chrome valve trim. Then add $15 shipping for every Moen valve trim you would like to add on top of your base pledge.

Adding a Moen Valve (only available in the U.S.)

For U.S. backers, add $89 for a valve. Then add $15 shipping for every valve you would like to add on top of your base pledge.

Examples:

  • If you have already pledged $220 and would like to add one 1 Nebia Shelf to be shipped within the U.S. ($39 + $10 shipping), update your pledge to $269.

  • If you’ve already pledged $220 and would like to add 1 Moen valve trim in Chrome to be shipped within the U.S. ($95 + $15 shipping), update your pledge to $330.

  • If you’ve already pledged $220 and would like to add one 1 Nebia Shelf ($39 + $10 shipping), 1 Moen valve trim in Spot Resist Nickel ($180 + $15 shipping), and 1 Moen valve ($89 + $15 shipping) to be shipped within the U.S., update your pledge to $568.

Note: The Nebia Shelf, Moen valve trim, and Moen valve are all shipped separately with separate charges for shipping.

Add-ons will be shipped at approximately the same time as your Nebia by Moen (see project timeline in our campaign). If you'd like to receive your add-on(s) before your Nebia by Moen ships, please contact us through our support center and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Deep Dive into the Science Behind Nebia by Moen
about 4 years ago – Sat, Feb 15, 2020 at 12:42:25 AM

Hi backers,

We are now 6,918 backers strong and counting and have surpassed our goal by 10X!! We love seeing where you hail from. Right now backers from Los Angeles are leading the pack, followed closely by our hometown of San Francisco. Wherever you’re from, thank you so much for your support!

How Nebia by Moen Stands up to the Competition

In this update, we wanted to provide you with some additional, technical information about Nebia by Moen. Wondering how Nebia by Moen compares to other atomization-like showers on the market? Here’s what Tom Murphy, Nebia’s Head of R&D, has to say:

“Compared to other atomization-like showers on the market, Nebia’s droplets are smaller, creating a more immersive, spa-like sensation. Our droplets also travel faster, providing more rinsing power per unit of water consumed. Finally, small droplets cool off faster than larger ones, but we’ve custom-designed the Nebia by Moen spray nozzles themselves, as well as their spatial arrangement, to ensure thermal comfort for all users.”

For Nebia by Moen, we think we’ve perfected the ideal combination of droplet size, spray pattern, and droplet velocity, resulting in our most advanced shower yet. Read on to find out how we accomplished this and how Nebia by Moen stands up to the competition.

Spray sensation

At the core of all three Nebia shower products—Nebia 1.0, Nebia 2.0, and Nebia by Moen—are atomizing spray nozzles that produce smaller, faster droplets than conventional showers. Nebia by Moen water droplets are larger than Nebia 1.0 and Nebia 2.0 water droplets (to improve temperature and rinsing), while still much smaller than those of regular and atomization-like showers (see Table below). The result is the signature Nebia spa-like sensation, which feels like an enveloping and immersive cloud of water droplets, steam, and air.

Body coverage

We generally define Body Coverage as the amount of a showerer’s body that is contacted by the spray. In the lab, we measure body coverage using the EPA WaterSense coverage test, which measures how much water from a shower falls into each of several concentric rings at a distance of 18” from the showerhead. At this 18” distance, Nebia by Moen covers a diameter of 20”, twice that of a similarly sized conventional 8” showerhead, and 2.5x the coverage of the atomization-like showers Hansgrohe Powder Rain and Delta H2OKinetic.

Rinsing effectiveness

Nebia by Moen provides comparable rinsing power to other atomization-like showers despite using about 45% less water (see Table above). We can measure rinsing effectiveness using the EPA WaterSense Spray Force test, the Nebia-designed Rinsing Efficiency test, or anecdotally by talking to users. We’ve done all three and Nebia by Moen passed with flying colors. Below Tom walks us through his custom-designed Rinsing Efficiency test.

Warmth

Nebia by Moen is Nebia’s warmest shower yet, accomplished primarily by increasing the size of the water droplets by about 17% in diameter (61% in mass), thereby significantly increasing their ability to retain heat. We measure a shower’s thermal performance in the lab using Manny, our thermal mannequin. Manny is equipped with 32 temperature sensors which give us an objective indication of how warm a shower is.

Manny has never been hotter

We designed the Nebia by Moen spray nozzle array to keep a user’s entire body as warm as they need, again using far less water than the competition (see Table). Moreover, the optional handheld wand increases midsection temperature by an additional 1.0°C for users who like their showers piping hot. 🔥

Finally, we wanted to share another review from expert DIY-er Ben from the YouTube channel Home Made Modern. Ben liked his new Nebia by Moen so much that he got a second one for his parents’ house! 🏡

We can’t wait to start shipping units and hear what you, our backers, think of your new Nebia by Moen!

Reviews and Information for International Backers
about 4 years ago – Wed, Feb 05, 2020 at 09:31:07 PM

Hi backers,

Two weeks into the campaign and we continue to be amazed by the outpouring of support and interest. The 🌍 needs better showers. Thank you!

We have a few important items to cover in this update. One, you’ve been asking to see more of Nebia by Moen in action, so we’ve included reviews from some of our early testers. And two, we are providing more specifics on the international adapter for waist-high water outlets.

For the first time ever, we designed Nebia to work with both the standard North American plumbing setup AND the standard European setting of a waist-high water outlet. Over the years, this has been highly requested and we are very excited to bring a clean, elegant, and reliable solution to our international backers. We worked hard to find a simple solution, one that would require only a few extra steps and make Nebia by Moen accessible to many more people around the world. If you are a backer outside of North America, please read the information below. But first, here's what our early testers are saying about their Nebia by Moen:

The Reviews Are In!

Brandon from This is Tech Today shares his impressions installing and showering with Nebia by Moen, along with a few tips:

Angelique documents her first time installing a showerhead and her Nebia by Moen shower experience here (see the first 5 minutes):

We’ve also had a great response from journalists who have tried Nebia by Moen. Here’s what they have to say:

"It was definitely warm enough for me, and I like hot showers." - CNBC: We tried the Silicon Valley shower head backed by Tim Cook, here’s what it’s like

"I was skeptical... And then I saw Nebia by Moen in action for myself, and to say I was impressed would be a huge understatement. This is a showerhead you notice, in all the best ways…

Installation is actually easy. It doesn’t even involve extra screwing into walls, so it’s rental-friendly.” - Real Simple: This Sleek New Showerhead Saves 45% More Water Than a Standard One—and It’s Available for $40 Off Right Now

Backers Outside of North America

Outside of North America, Nebia by Moen will work with two different types of shower configurations:

1. Above-Head Water Outlet with in-wall BSPT fittings*

  • This setup will not require any additional steps and will follow the same installation instructions as the standard North American model. See the install video here
  •  *This does not include Australia, as it has a different standard from the rest of the world (see more information below)

2. Waist-High Water Outlet with BSPP fittings (common in Europe and other parts of the world)

  1. The water outlet can be located both above head or at waist height as seen in the graphic below. However, this is the only option available for backers with waist-high water outlets.
  2.  This setup will require a few additional steps (screwing the bracket into the wall, see installation video and instructions below).
  3.  This option is not available for backers with NPT fittings (in North America). We know that some of you have requested it, and we are really sorry that we aren’t able to provide it yet. We are looking into it for some point in the future.
  4. This is the only option available for Australian backers.

The waist-high water outlet version of Nebia by Moen will mount perfectly against the bathroom wall and will not require an adapter kit. Instead, it will come with an additional hose that will attach to the water source. If you order the Combo, the hose will match the Wand hose. It will come with a separate mount and three screws that can be easily installed (see the installation video and instructions below). The user can decide where to install their Nebia by Moen, and at what height, as long as the hose reaches the water outlet.

Watch our co-founder Philip demonstrate the simple install process:

Backers outside of North America - Selecting Your Version After Campaign

Once the campaign ends, you will receive a survey from BackerKit asking you to confirm your shipping address and finish of choice. At that point, you will be able to select the type of shower configuration you have. You will have two options:

1. Above-Head Water Outlet with in-wall BSPT fittings (common in Europe and other parts of the world)

2. Waist-High Water Outlet with BSPP fittings (common in Europe and other parts of the world).

Australian Backers 🇦🇺

There has been some confusion surrounding Nebia by Moen’s compatibility in Australia. We are sorry for this confusion, and we’d like to clear things up. Over the last 4 years of shipping showers, we have learned a key difference between the shower setup in Australia versus the rest of the world.

In summary: For Australia, only the Waist-High Water Outlet with BSPP fittings option will be compatible with Nebia by Moen. The Above-Head Water Outlet with in-wall BSPT fittings will not be compatible. More information below.

Brief context: Australia has a unique plumbing standard, that we have not seen anywhere else in the world. Aussies, the truth is your system is way better and safer, and the rest of the world should follow your lead! By requiring the connection (seal) to appear outside of the wall, as opposed to behind the wall, it means that if any leak were to occur it would happen in the shower stall as opposed to behind the wall. This is far safer than the shower setup in the rest of the world. Kudos to your regulatory institutions.

Australian above-head water outlets have a fixed male pipe coming out of the wall, whereas above-head water outlets in the rest of the world have a fixed female pipe fitting inside of the wall. The standard North American version of Nebia by Moen needs a female pipe fitting to connect our custom pipe adapter in order for the unit to attach and seal. It cannot seal in the Australian system for several reasons, one of which is that we cannot know the dimensions of built-in male pipes in Australia (the internal dimensions of those pipes are not controlled, it depends where the part was purchased and when it was built) so we are unable to make a compatible seal. Because of the dimensions and sealing mechanism of Nebia by Moen, we cannot guarantee compatibility. For this reason, we are only offering the International BSPP version to Australians who have a waist-high or above-head water outlet.

We know that this may disappoint some of you. And we are truly sorry. This was not an easy decision, and there was a lot of back and forth internally. But, in the end, we think it is the safest and most reliable solution. If we are able to make a compatible and safe option in the future for above-head external BSPP fittings, you can count on us to let you know.

To our international backers, we really hope this helps. In the meantime, please reach out if you have additional questions by commenting on this post.

Thank You! A Big Step Forward for Nebia.
over 4 years ago – Mon, Jan 27, 2020 at 11:07:22 PM

Dear Nebia friends and backers,

Wow. The continued outpouring of support from the Kickstarter community never ceases to amaze us. Thank you!

After months of preparation, we pushed “go” on our campaign Monday night, sent it out into the world, and hoped for the best. This is our third Kickstarter campaign so we’ve done this before but we still had no idea what to expect. In the minutes and hours after the launch, the whole Nebia team watched as your pledges rolled in, celebrating each time the backer count number went up. Six hours after the launch, we met our goal, and this weekend we surpassed 5,000 backers and over $1,000,000!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for your support. Thank you for believing in us.

As you’ve heard us say before, we are obsessed with designing the best possible shower experience, inclusive of all that entails: feeling of the spray, warmth, rinsability, relaxation, the right features, adjustability, easy install, responsible manufacturing, and most of all saving as much water as possible, while preserving all of the aforementioned.

We believe in a world that does not accept the status quo. We believe in a world that stretches the limits of creativity and ingenuity to look beyond what has already been done before. Clearly, you believe in this too.

For the past several years we have been refining the shower experience through atomization technology. The Kickstarter community has been alongside us for every step in this journey, the successes, and more importantly, the challenges.

Nebia by Moen is a paradigm shift for us as a company and, we think, for the industry at large. Never before has there been a premium shower system at this price, packed with all of these features, that also delivers a fully enveloping shower experience while pushing the limits in terms of sustainability.

The Nebia by Moen spray up close. #shotoniphone

By pledging for Nebia by Moen, you are helping us scale the impact of the Nebia community like never before. The average household of four using Nebia by Moen will save approximately 14,000 gallons of water per year (in San Francisco that equates to over $600 in savings per year)! Thank you for getting us that much closer to our goal to save 1 billion gallons of water by 2021.

The days since launching Nebia by Moen have been a whirlwind. Our entire 14-person team has been pitching in to respond to your questions and comments as quickly as possible. If we haven’t gotten back to you yet, please hang tight and we’ll be sure to respond ASAP!

There is a lot to cover: from questions about your order, details on the waist-high version, background on the design and development process, what our roadmap looks like now that we are partnered with Moen, and much more. We look forward to sharing more information and covering all of these topics in the coming weeks through our future updates.

From the bottom of our hearts. Thank you. The  🌍 needs all of us more than ever before.

- Philip, Gabe, Carlos, and the entire Nebia team

One of the most enjoyable parts of putting together the campaign is figuring out how to best light Nebia so that the spray looks just as good as it feels. We get to work with some extremely talented and creative photographers to make these images come to life.
Mau, Max, and Ale making small adjustments to prototypes, one week before launch.
Zarna and Ale making sure every last detail is just the way it needs to be.
Last week, everyone working away on our Kickstarter page ahead of the launch.
